40 Days of study

A human being lives, but he is given life.

Benefits of Receiving the Holy Spirit

Someone once asked me what is the benefit of receiving the Holy Spirit? Well here are just five benefits I have found feel free to add more to the list.

1)    A stronger desire to study Gods word.

2)    A more earnest prayer life.

3)    A deeper repentance for our sins.

4)    A change in lifestyle and activities.

5)    A deeper understanding of what it means to forgive.

I agree with author when he says that we need to in filling of the Holy Spirit to fully walk with Christ, How can we know Him if we do not fully understand him? And every time we receive this in filling, we move a little closer to Him.

On the first day I said to many times Christians get baptized then stop, things they are saved but I believe that (Matthew 7:21-23) stress the need for continued growth. Simply knowing the teaching of the Bible, or engaging in active ministry for Jesus is not enough. We must be filled with the Holy Spirit and live the life that Christ has asked us too.

I see water baptism is symbolized by the wedding service, while Spirit baptism is symbolized by the consummation of the marriage when the bride“knows” her bridegroom.

In (2 Cor. 4:16) Paul tells us that “the inward man is being renewed day by day” I do believe that he is telling us that the in filling of
the Holy Spirit in not a “once and forever” experience. Here is the best description I can find about this life long process. “When the Spirit of God takes possession of the heart, it transforms the life. Sinful thoughts are put away, evil deeds are renounced; love,
humility, and peace take the place of anger, envy, and strife. Joy takes the place of sadness, and the countenance reflects the light of heaven.

Personal Reflection and Discussion

  1. What are the benefits of receiving the Holy Spirit?
  2. How often should we ask for this in filling?
  3. Can we truly be in Christ without this infilling of the Holy Spirit? Hint (Matthew 25:1-13)

Prayer Activities

  1. Call your Partner and discuss this devotional.
  2. Pray with then and ask for the following;
    • For God to continue to fill you with the Holy Spirit.
    • For God to manifest the changes in your life necessary for you to reflect Him.
    • For God to bless your prayer list and any special needs they may have.

There are so many good verses to use today but my favorite comes for the book of Philippians, if you get time read the whole
book but for today use the following Bible Verse in your prayer (Phil. 2:5)

Hope I’m not getting ahead of you, but the HolySpirit also gives us the power to witness. Keep up the good work. I’m proud of you. Ileta

Yes that is why Jesus told everyone to wait in Jerusalem in (acts 1), because until they had received the infilling they were not ready to go out in to the world and preach. I believe that that shows that once the Holy Spirit touches you all you want to do is tell the world.

Asking for the infilling of the Holy Spirit is a deep, deep commitment. Like you said it can be like a marriage. It takes work ( I hesitate to use that word) to make a marriage work, so it takes work(?) to have the Spirit work and infill in us. We are to pray for the infilling everyday and when we choose not to it grieves the Spirit. That is something we don’t really want to do.

I agree, that it does grieve the Holy Spirit when we stop asking for the infilling. I also believe that it saddens our heart as well, with out Christ filling your life on a daily bases, you will start to see a void that needs to be filled.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit seems to me to be what guides us on our walk with God, while the outpouring of the HS seems to enable us to step out with boldness for the Lord out of love for mankind. Our love for God is perfected when we combine it with the work that results for that indwelling love. I guess it’s like any true love experence, we love them so much in our hearts we eventually get to that point where we want to make a public demonstration of our love and commitment…we want to shout it from the roof tops how much were in love.

How excited are we today about our love for God? Shouldn’t we be more focused on his loving mercies and all that he’s done for, is doing, and will do? Paul expalins how the more he studied the width, length, and height of God’s love the more he got filled with the fullness of God. (Eph. 3:13) Lets focus more on praising God’s goodness and watch us recieve an early portion of that latter rain now.
