A human being lives, but he is given life.

The Gifts of the Spirit and Fellowship

Another essential ingredient for a fellowship group to be successful is the function of the gifts of the Spirit in the Group. Since
spiritual gifts are manifested through Spirit-filled believers, it is essential that the participants be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Several Chapters in the New Testament discuss spiritual gifts. The most prominent Scriptures concerning spirit gifts are found in Paul’s letters. (Romans 12:4-8) “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. “

(1 Cor. 12:7-12) “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the
Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.”

(Eph. 4:7-11) “But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: “When he ascended on high,
he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.” (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,”

The gift of teaching that fits in to this purpose will be a great blessing to all who attend. The lessons will be generally short
ones from Scripture rather then a long teaching session. The emphasis will be placed on the practical application of Scripture to the individual issues that arise in the group setting.

Supporting Scripture; (Gal. 6:2), (1 Cor. 12:14-22)

Personal Reflection and Discussion

  1. What must each fellowship participant have in order for the gifts of the Spirit to be present?
  2. Read the gifts of the blessing and describe how you try and use them in your life.
  3. Have you seen God manifest spiritual gifts through you to minister to other? If so, which gifts?

Prayer Activities

  1. Call your Partner and discuss this devotional.
  2. Contact the people on your prayer list and let them know you are still praying for them.
  3. Pray with then and ask for the following;
    • For God to bring you the gifts of the Spirit to your life.
    • For God to strengthen your fellowship with other Christians.
    • For the individuals on your pray list.
    • That we continue to seek the Holy Spirit
  4. For today use the following Bible verse in your prayer (1 Cor. 12:14, 18)

The Holy Spirit gives us all gifts. If we don’t use them, it is my understanding that they will be taken away. Is that right Bobby? I have yet to find my gifts. I am not a preacher, a prophet, or a teacher. I think maybe mine is to encourage . I thought at one time I might be a prayer warrior too but I don’t know. That doesn’t mean I don’t pray. I do, for so many people. I so often feel I don’t have any gifts but I know that is not true. I just pray I am using it whatever it may be.:) Praise God for His infinite love nd mercy for those of us who make life interesting.

Rosie I have known you about eight months now and you say you are not a teacher but you have two great boys that you taught how to “Love”. You say that you are not a Preacher but you taught the boys about “faith” and you say that you are not a prophet but you tell them that their actions will bring an “unwanted or something wanted” out outcome. Ok the last one was just a joke, but get what I am trying to say. I think the definition of a mother should be all these things and more. You have a wonderful heart Rosie and it was just a few lessons ago you were talking about a friend of yours that you helped them, now you sound like an evangelist. God gives us the things we need to serve Him when we need them.

Ok, now to answer your question. I think that God gives us our gifts and yes he can take them away, but I also believe that God never stops trying to work in us, so it would take a lot to lose any gift His has given us. I am working on a sermon entitled “Can a saved man be lost?” and I believe we must ask Christ to come in to our lives every day, but more on that later. I have nothing but faith in you and know if anyone will be in heaven with Christ it will be you.

Above all those listed gifts, is love. We could hold all the gifts and if we don’t have love it’s pointless. Even if we had just one, isn’t it love that motivates us to use it. I think that fits with the ideas that thoses who are faithful in little God makes them faithful in much, and if we don’t use it we lose it. There given to streghten and grow the body. Love is it’s life line. Like blood to the body. A body part without blood is in danger of getting lossed. Sorry, if sounds nasty… I think visually.

Without love there is nothing else we see this in the Ten Commandments. it makes me stop and think; when a person has love in their life everyone can see it, well maybe that is why on the righteous can stand to be in the sight if God.
